Information for EMTs
Responding to requests by Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), the Governor’s Council has made its popular "When Your Child's Head Has Been Hurt" information sheet available in a convenient pocket size.
The laminated reference card provides information on impairments that often accompany traumatic brain injuries. These include neuromedical, behavioral-emotional, communication, and cognitive symptoms. Cards are available free of charge to EMTs and other primary healthcare providers. Please call the Council office at 602-863-0484 for more information. |

National Championships Come to Arizona
For the second year, Arizona was home to the National Wheelchair Basketball Association’s National Championship games. Hosted by the Arizona Spinal Cord Injury Association, the Banner Wheelchair Suns and the Phoenix Suns, the games brought together nine teams from across the U.S. and Canada. Approximately 500 fans per day watched the action.
When the dust settled, the Denver Rollin Nuggets emerged victorious in Division 1 play, while the Golden State Road Warriors took the Division 2 honors.
Fans were also treated to a spirited Celebrity Game, which featured Phoenix Suns alumni and members of the Banner Wheelchair Suns. The Celebrity Game raised funds for The Center for Habilitation and the Wheelchair Suns’ Junior Program.
In July, Arizona was the site of another national competition, the 2004 National Junior Disabled Sports Championships. Events took place in Mesa, from July 11 – 17.
Over 300 athletes and their families attended the championship. Activities included track, field, archery, boccia ball, 3x3 basketball, table tennis, weightlifting, and an air pistol/rifle workshop.
The Mesa Association of Sports for the Disabled sponsored the event.
