Sharing Lessons Learned on Systems Change

The Arizona Governor’s Council on Spinal and Head Injuries was featured in an article entitled, “Handle With Care:  The Arizona Experience Part II – Strategies Learned by Doing,” in the Winter 2006 edition of Premier Outlook magazine.

The article builds upon an initial story in the Spring 2005 edition of the magazine that introduced Arizona’s systems change strategy to enhance service coordination for children with traumatic brain injury.

The current article focuses on lessons learned from the systems change project.  It was authored by Council Director Chrystal Snyder; Curriculum Development, Education and Prevention Officer Ann Tarpy; and consultants Susan Wolf, Susan Burke, and Robert Horton.

The publication identifies Arizona’s service coordination project as a “promising approach to strengthening supports and service delivery for individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and their families from the public sector perspective.”

The article identifies and discusses five strategies for successful system change (see box.)  It can be viewed online at www.premier-outlook.com.

Premier Outlook is an online periodical that focuses on brain injury.  It is a publication of ResCare Premier of San Marcos, Texas.
