Steve Petrofsky founded Electrologic™ with a belief that “conditioning leads to success.”

An original leader of Therapeutic Technologies in Dayton, Ohio, Petrofsky formed his own consulting firm in 1994. His goal was to continue developing and improving SCI therapy bicycles. Currently, 2000 to 3000 people use Petrofsky’s StimMaster™ to help relax muscle spasms, prevent atrophy, increase range of motion, and re-educate muscles.

But what makes the StimMaster™ bikes different from the other SCI therapeutic technologies?

“We use artificial intelligence and adaptive control to strengthen all cardiovascular areas,” Petrofsky states. “Without a strong cardiovascular system people with SCI will be ill-prepared when a cure finally comes.”

Steve Petrofsky developed his SCI technologies while working for NASA on the Hubble Telescope. “I was granted adaptation rights from the robotic control system I originally worked on in order to develop cutting-edge therapeutic bikes to help people with SCI,” he says.

The StimMaster™ operates by using computer-controlled, safe currents that pass through electrodes on the skin to initiate muscle contractions in paralyzed lower extremities. The seated user receives low-level electrical pulses via noninvasive surface electrodes that cause leg muscles to contract in a coordinated order.

“StimMaster™ bikes address all medical symptoms of SCI by providing a cutting-edge conditioning regimen,” Petrofsky states.

Petrofsky’s technology is unique in the industry. But his team at Electrologic™ continues to work to expand their product line and develop new technologies.

“By the end of the year we will have developed six new adaptive technologies, and we hope to work out deals for Medicare coverage and an overall lower cost with easier availability for everyone in need,” says Petrofsky.

Electrologic™ personnel work with customers to determine whether their health insurance will cover their StimMaster™ purchase. In some cases, reimbursement is also available through Workman’s Compensation, government grants, or fundraising programs.
